WarBirds have two champs at Lancaster

LANCASTER - The Black Hawk-Darlington wrestling team had two champions and finished fifth in the Lancaster Invitational Saturday.

The WarBirds had two champions in senior Paul King at 120 pounds and junior Kolbe Ubersox (138). After a first-round bye, King (13-4) defeated Lancaster's Caleb Lucey 17-10. In the championship match, King pinned Monticello's Ethan Tallman in 1 minute, 37 seconds.

Ubersox (17-2) dominated the first two rounds. He pinned River Ridge-Cassville's Myles Wehrle in 37 seconds in the first round. Ubersox then pinned Lancaster's Logan Schneider in the second round. In the title match, Ubersox edged Alex Richard of Dubuque Senior 6-2.

Lancaster racked up 193 points to capture the team title over runner-up Sparta (167.5). Black Hawk-Darlington (130 points) took fifth at the 11-team invitational. Brodhead-Juda (54) finished eighth.

The WarBirds had eight wrestlers finish in the top four. Senior Grady Rielly (152), sophomore Bailey Schilling (195) and senior Brody Milz (220) each finished third. Sophomores Cody Blosch (126), Cayden Milz (145) and Carson Lobdell (170) each took fourth.

Rielly, Schilling and Brody Milz each went 3-1 in the invite. Rielly defeated Boscobel's Tanner Bassett 14-3 in a quarterfinal match. In the semifinals, Iowa Grant-Highland's Clayton Kite knocked him off 16-9. Rielly bounced back in a consolation semifinal to beat Lancaster's Morgan Seippel 6-2. In a third-place match, Rielly defeated Bryce Anstoetter of Dubuque Wahlert 6-1.

Schilling opened the first round by pinning Iowa Grant-Highland's Clint Havlik in 2:58. Declan Duffy of Dubuque Wahlert then beat Schilling 11-2. Schilling rebounded and pinned Dubuque Senior's Hunter Thoma in 1:24. Schilling took third due to an injury by Havlik.

Brody Milz rolled in his quarterfinal match, pinning Sparta's Garet Pfaff in 25 seconds. Dubuque Wahlert's Boone McDermott (23-1), pinned Milz in a semifinal match in 1:19. Milz came back and pinned Lancaster's Cole Lenz in 20 seconds in a consolation semifinal. Milz took third when Pfaff wasn't able to wrestle due to an injury.

Brodhead-Juda sophomore Jayson Starr (10-9) finished second, and senior Kaleb Erb (160) took fourth. Freshman Braden Erb (106) finished fifth.

Starr pinned Blosch in 5:59. In a semifinal match, he pinned Andrew Wall of Monticello, Iowa, in 3:46. Boscobel's Braiden Pickett knocked off Starr in a technical fall in the championship match, 19-2.

Kaleb Erb went 3-2 with two pins. In a third-place match, Dubuque Senior's Nathan Siegworth defeated Erb 9-1.
