DARLINGTON - Junior two-time state qualifier Kolbe Ubersox wanted to make a statement in Black Hawk-Darlington's dual match against Cuba City-Southwestern-Benton Thursday.

Ubersox, ranked No. 4 at 138 pounds in the Division 3 Wrestling Online state poll, pinned Cuba City-Southwestern-Benton's Colin Blackbourn in 47 seconds. Ubersox's pin was one of five for the WarBirds which rolled to a 52-12 win over the Cubans. Black Hawk-Darlington (2-1 SWAL), ranked No. 5 in the Division 3 Wisconsin Wrestling Online state poll, dominated the middle and upper weights winning nine of the 11 matches wrestled.

"It felt great to get a pin tonight," said Ubersox, who improved his record to 7-0 this year. "As a team we obviously want to make it to team state. "Individually, I want to be the best I can be and be a state champ this year."

The other pins for the WarBirds came from junior Hunter Bredeson (160), sophomore Carson Lobdell (182), sophomore Bailey Schiling (195) and senior Brody Milz (220).

"It's nice to see them all win," Black Hawk-Darlington coach Cole Wunnicke said of nine WarBird wrestlers. "I wish we could have won more. They did exactly what we wanted them to do. As long as they go out and do their best that is all we can ask. We still have a lot of work to do."

After Black Hawk-Darlington senior Paul King (126) won by a forfeit, the Warbirds tied the match at 6. Black Hawk-Darlington then reeled off nine straight wins. Black Hawk-Darlington sophomore Cody Blosch (132) defeated Cuba City-Southwestern-Benton's Wylie Niles 10-0. Blosch scored on a near fall at the end of the second period to take a commanding lead he wouldn't relinquish.

Sophomore Cayden Milz (145) defeated the Cubans' Martin Shelliam 12-2. At 152, Black Hawk-Darlington senior Grady Rielly knocked off the Cubans' Tyler Reuter 6-1. Rielly led by three points late and sealed the win with a takedown with about 20 seconds left in the third period to fuel a 6-1 win.

Bredeson (160) pinned Cuba City-Southwestern-Benton's Jacob Carey in 1:21. In the closest match of the dual, Black Hawk-Darlington senior Tyler Mosley (170) pulled out a 4-3 double-overtime win over Brad Goffinet. Mosley, ranked No. 6 at 160, scored on an escape with 1:30 left in the third period to tie the match at 2.

After a scoreless first overtime period, Mosley scored on a reversal with 6 seconds to go in the second extra session. Mosley then allowed Goffinet to start in a neutral position and led by just one point. He held him off for the final 30 seconds to seal the victory.

"Mosley is our team leader," Wunnicke said. "He's 160, but he's been wrestling 170 all year. He won that by being aggressive and on guts. We couldn't have asked anything more from him."

Lobdell (182) pinned the Cubans' Abe Meier in 3:26.Schiling (195) pinned Cuba City-Southwestern-Benton's Bryce Gregory in 1:30 and Brody Milz, ranked No. 8 at 220, pinned the Cubans' Logan Murphy in 1:16. Milz is giving up a few pounds at 220, but he improved his record to 7-0.

"I have to be a little quicker and faster at this weight," Brody Milz said. "I just have to keep working hard in practice and doing things sound. The SWAL is the toughest conference for wrestling."

The only loss for the WarBirds this season was to No. 2-ranked Fennimore, a state runner-up last year.

"It was an eye-opener," Wunnicke said of the WarBirds loss to Fennimore. "They are the favorite to win the conference."

Black Hawk-Darlington can still be a contender for a regional team title and a sectional berth. In order to earn a share of a SWAL title, the WarBirds will need to get some help and have someone knock off Fennimore.

"We have to keep pushing hard in the wrestling room and keep the energy up," Ubersox said. "I think we can get a conference title."
