This week's nominees:

Monroe

Jamie Armstrong:  The senior scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Cheesemakers to a 45-28 win over Milton in a showdown of unbeatens. Monroe, (8-0, 3-0 Badger South) ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press Division 2 state poll and in the WisSports.net coaches poll, took over sole possession of first place in the Badger South.

Nick Walker: The junior heavyweight went 5-0 as the Cheesemakers won the Verona dual Invitational. Walker beat two of the state's top 12 ranked wrestlers. He defeated Slinger's Jake Schall, who is ranked 12th in Division 2 and Darlington's Mark Brugger, who is ranked fourth in Division 3.

Kevin Frint:  The senior scored 14 points and had seven rebounds in the Cheesemakers' 53-32 Badger Conference crossover win over Mount Horeb.

Area Boys

Devin Jeglum of Pecatonica:  The senior scored 26 points to lead the Vikings to a 53-42 win over Weston. He followed that up by leading the Vikings to a 67-37 rout over Black Hawk.

Alex Erickson of Darlington:  The junior sharpshooter scored 25 points in a 71-31 win over Mineral Point. Erickson has helped the Redbirds, ranked seventh in the Associated Press Division 2 state poll and in the WisSports.Net coaches poll, get off to a 10-0 start.

Ben Schmitt of Sugar River:  The senior 160-pounder went 4-0 and won a championship at the Sauk Prairie Eagle Invite.

Area Girls

Ellen Kiser of Juda:  The sophomore scored 24 points and had 21 rebounds in a 59-50 win over Belmont. She followed that up by scoring 13 points in a 54-45 loss to Black Hawk.

Taylor Klitzke of Monticello:  The junior scored 14 points to help lead Monticello to a 46-34 win over Benton.

Kim Wellnitz of Black Hawk:  The senior scored a game-high 21 points in a 47-32 win over Barneveld. Wellnitz then scored 11 points in a 54-45 Six Rivers East Conference showdown win over Juda.
