Monroe

Evan Brady, Football: The senior stepped into a starting roll and had two interceptions and a sack in a Sept. 25 loss to Madison Edgewood.

Dylan Starck, Cross Country: Starck broke his personal best time by nearly a half of a minute and finished 19th with a mark of 16 minutes, 17 seconds at the annual Midwest Invitational in Janesville Sept. 25. Nearly 1,000 runners participated.

Rachel Root, Swimming: The sophomore swimmer won the 100 butterfly in a dual against McFarland Sept. 21. Root teamed up with three other girls to win the 200 freestyle relay and take second in the 200 medley relay.

Area Boys

Michael Peterson, Brodhead-Juda Football: Peterson had four catches for 75 yards and two touchdowns in the Cardinals' 41-15 win over Orfordville Parkview.

Alec Treuthardt, Pecatonica-Argyle Football: Treuthardt scored on a 44-yard touchdown run on his own carry in the Vikings' 31-6 romp of Cassville. Treuthardt scored again on a 29-yard touchdown pass.

Tyson Miehe, Darlington CC: The freshman phenomenon took first place at the SWAL Conference meet in Fennimore Sept. 21 with a time of 17:47. Four days later, Miehe took second at the Fennimore Relays Sept. 25, finishing with a time of 16 minutes, 43 seconds in the five kilometer race.

Area Girls

Sydney Bump, Albany Volleyball: The reigning Six Rivers East player of the year had 28 kills, 30 digs and three blocks, including nine spike kills in the Comet's four-set win over Black Hawk Sept. 23. It was the second time in a month Albany beat Black Hawk, which hadn't lost in conference in three years. Bump also had 15 kills in a Sept. 21 win over Argyle.

Ellen Kiser, Juda Volleyball: The junior hitter had 14 kills and two blocks in a 3-2 loss to Barneveld Sept. 23.

Ellie Gifford, Pecatonica Volleyball: The senior helped the Vikings break out of its conference funk this past week. Gifford had 10 assists in Pecatonica's win over Juda Sept. 21, earning her team its first conference win of the season. Two days later Gifford racked up nine kills, seven assists and two blocks in a 3-0 sweep of Argyle.
