Monroe

Kyleigh Sellnow, Girls Basketball: The senior guard had 15 points and three 3-pointers as the Cheesemakers knocked off the No. 1-ranked team in the state and defending state champion New Berlin Eisenhower on Dec. 28.

Alex Barenklau, Boys Basketball: The sophomore guard played stellar defense and scored 13 points as the Cheesemakers knocked off Milwaukee Custer 70-50. In the decisive third quarter, Barenklau hit a key 3-pointer and had two steals.

Kevin Klopfenstein, Wrestling: The sophomore grappler went 5-3 at the Bi-State meet in La Crosse in the 125-pound division, taking eighth overall.

Area Boys

Ross Gilbertson, Pecatonica-Argyle Wrestling: Gilbertson went 6-2 at the Mid-States Wrestling Classic in Whitewater in the heavyweight division, collecting four pins on his way to a fourth-place finish.

J.J. Panoske, Brodhead Basketball: The senior standout had 20 points in a loss to River Valley in the first round of th Cuba City Classic and had 29 points the next day in a win over Milwaukee Science Academy.

Tyler Ritschard, Monticello Basketball: The senior guard scored 27 points in a 54-51 loss to Cambridge in the opening round of the Edgerton Holiday Tournament. Ritschard then scored 16 points the next day in a 58-52 win over Central Wisconsin Christian in the third place game.

Girls

Taylor Douglas, Brodhead Basketball: The sophomore had 17 points in the Cardinal's opening-day win over defending state champion Cuba City at the Cuba City Classic. Douglas then scored eight more points in a loss to River Ridge.

Ellen Kiser: The junior center had 21 points in a first round win against Johnson Creek in the Palmyra-Eagle tournament. Kiser then scored 10 points in a 56-9 win against Williams Bay the next day.

Alisha Esselstein, Pecatonica Basketball: The senior scored 17 points in a 67-36 loss to River Ridge at the Vikings' own holiday tournament. The next night Esselstein had 19 points in an 80-64 loss to Mineral Point.
