Monroe:

Gwen Sutter, Girls Basketball: Scored a game-high 19 points and made four of the Cheesemakers' seven 3-pointers in a 64-24 munching of the Freeport Pretzels Feb. 6. Two days earlier, Sutter just scored two points but helped Monroe knock off cross-conference rival Sauk Prairie, one of the top teams in Division 1.

Kevin Frint, Boys Basketball: Helped pick up the scoring slack after junior sharpshooter Bryan Tordoff sprained an ankle, registering 16 of his 18 points in Monroe's 46-42 loss to Freeport Feb. 6. Frint also scored eight points and had two key stops in a win over Oregon Feb. 5 and scored 18 points in another conference win against Milton Feb. 2.

Chelsea Brice, Girls Basketball: The senior guard had the hot shooting hand early on as she scored 12 of her 14 points in the first quarter of Monroe's 64-24 win over Freeport Feb. 6. Two days earlier, Brice helped shut down Sauk Prairie's Kelsey Budd while scoring four points, including a big 3-pointer in Monroe's win.

Area Boys:

Tyler Meier, Monticello Basketball: Scored 14 of his game-high 25 points in the third quarter of the Ponies' 58-31 route of Argyle Feb. 4.

Cody Spooner, Brodhead-Juda Wrestling: Won the 215-pound weight class at the Rock Valley Conference tournament Feb. 6, going 3-0 with two pins and a major decision win (13-0) over Edgerton's Adam Carlson (21-9) in the finals.

Mark Brugger, Darlington Wrestling: Won the SWAL-SWC Clash heavyweight title Feb.6, going 3-0 with a pin in the quarterfinals, an overtime victory in the semifinals and a 6-2 decision in the championship.

Area Girls:

Heather Boeke, Juda Basketball: Scored a team-high 16 points in a 50-49 overtime loss to Shullsburg in the Six Rivers Challenge Feb. 5.

Taylor Douglas, Brodhead Basketball: Scored a game-high 16 points in a 58-34 win over Whitewater Feb. 1. A freshman, Douglas scored 11 points in the first half of a 44-36 upset of conference rival Orfordville Parkview Feb. 4.

Tanya Gruter, New Glarus Basketball: Scored 20 points in a Feb. 5 loss to Cambridge, 55-37, including two 3-pointers.
