The Black Hawk volleyball team, the defending Six Rivers East Conference champions, are ready for another run.
The Warriors (2-0 Six Rivers East) extended their conference winning streak to 14 straight matches after a three-game sweep of Albany, 25-12, 25-20, 25-13.
"I think they are as good as last year," Albany coach Connie Wunschel said.
The Comets (2-3, 1-2) were led by sophomore Sydney Bump, who had six kills and three blocks.
Fellow sophomore Courtney Pfeuti had 10 assists and junior Clare Koopmans had several key service points.
"She inspired us in a close second game," Wunschel said.
Black Hawk hosts Monticello Thursday night, and Albany goes to Argyle.
Argyle 3, Juda 1>
In a volleyball match originally scheduled at Juda, the match was moved to Argyle so the Panthers could pick up a match Homecoming week.
The Orioles (2-4, 1-2) capitalized on the home court advantage, pulling out a thrilling four-game match over the Panthers, 23-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-22.
Argyle junior outside hitter Jackie Dammen had seven kills and junior Stephanie Cuevos had nine assists.
Lindsay Flanagan led the Orioles with eight digs and Kim Fischer had five aces.
Argyle coach Shane Johnson said the team may have been putting too much pressure on themselves to get the first conference win.
"I think we are just starting to get to the point where we are finally starting to feel comfortable," Johnson said.
Argyle hosts Albany Thursday night. Juda plays at Pecatonica.
New Glarus 3, Marshall 0>
The Glarner Knights dominated in Capitol Conference play Tuesday night, defeating visiting Marshall 25-12, 25-25, 25-16.
Sophomore Lauren Narveson and senior Kaitlin Schluter spread the offense, each registering 12 assists. Senior Kelsey Zimmerman was the biggest recipient, registering 11 kills.
Senior Julia Gartzke had six blocks. Schluter and seniors Ansyia Secord and Kalie French each served up three aces.
New Glarus travels to Waterloo on Thursday.
Boscobel 3, Darlington 2>
The Redbirds had a chance to win Thursday's SWAL Conference game at Boscobel.
Darlington was ahead in games 2-1 with one win needed to capture victory. The Bulldogs blocked those chances, however, winning the final two games.
The Redbirds took game one, 25-17, but Boscobel rebounded to win game two, 25-13. Darlington won game three, 25-17, before the Bulldogs eked out a 25-22 win in game four and then won game five, 15-12.
Paige Champion led the Redbirds with 12 assists. Cassie Fink had eight aces. Courtney McBee and Whitney Hardyman each had six kills.
