STOUGHTON - Monroe's wrestling team could only muster three wins Tuesday against arguably the Badger South's best team, losing 61-18 to Stoughton.
"We had a very light lineup," head coach Jeriamy Jackson said. "It is tough enough to be giving away points because of holes in the lineup, but then we wrestle a team who not only has a full lineup, but is solid at every weight."
Monroe forfeited five matches, totaling 30 points for the Vikings. The biggest forfeit possibly came at 135, where Dylan Schwartz was ill and missed his match.
Monroe's three wins came on pins from Steven Steiner (in 3 minutes, 29 seconds over Greg Krantz at 152), Lucas Leu (over Ben Egan in 1:23 at heavyweight) and Gavin Wels (over Kris Saeger in 20 seconds at 112).
"Gavin Wels continues to impress," Jackson said.
Monroe now prepares for its own invitational this Satuday, Jan. 24. The Cheesemakers will host 10 schools in a tournament style setting, which should be of some benefit to Monroe.
