STOUGHTON - The Monroe-New Glarus girls swim team lost its final Badger South Conference dual meet 92-78 to Stoughton on Tuesday.

"The score on the board was not what the girls worked for or hoped for, but just like all season long they swam with pride and tenacity," Monroe-New Glarus coach Linda Moser said. "I'm so proud of their courage to compete in a tough conference, knowing that 12 of the 19 are new to high school swimming this year. It takes a lot of inner strength to work hard in practice day after day knowing the score won't show that."

Monroe-New Glarus junior Maddie Hammer won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 56.78 seconds and won the 100 breaststroke (1:18.14). Junior Brynn Ritschard finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:25.57).

Monroe senior Skylar Lassen won the 200 freestyle (2:10.95) and took second in the 100 backstroke (1:06.04). New Glarus sophomore Nina Schiro won the 500 freestyle (5:49.19).

The Cheesemakers' 400 freestyle relay team of Lassen, sophomore Cammi Ganshert, Schiro and Hammer took second and posted a personal-record time of 3:58.55. The Cheesemakers' 200 medley relay team of Schiro, Hammer, Emily Meritt and Lassen also won in 2:05.18.

In the junior varsity meet, Stoughton defeated Monroe-New Glarus 75-60.

Monroe-New Glarus will compete in the Platteville Invitational on Saturday.
