STOUGHTON - The Monroe boys hockey co-op looked like it was closing in on its second Badger South Conference win, but Stoughton escaped with a 4-3 overtime win over the Cheesemakers Saturday.
Stoughton's James Hanson scored the game-winning goal on an assist from Dane Sutton 1 minute, 22 seconds into the extra session. Hanson scored two goals to lead the Vikings.
Monroe (2-10, 1-4 Badger South) jumped out to an early lead on freshman Luke Kuberski's goal on an assist by freshman Ryan Molitor at 4:39 in the first period. The Cheesemakers added to their lead when freshman Cade Janecke scored a power-play goal on passes from sophomore Travis Edmunds and junior Jared Cline to give Monroe a 2-0 lead.
