MILAN, Italy — The United States Women’s Hockey Team finished the preliminary rounds with a a perfect 4-0 record at this year’s Winter Olympics. The USA outscored opponents 20-1, scoring five goals in each game against Czechia, Finland, Switzerland and Canada. It was the most lopsided loss by the Canadian women’s team in Olympic history.
In the most recent win over Canada on February 10, USA received goals or assists from three current Wisconsin Badgers: Caroline Harvey had a goal and two assists, while Kristen Simms and Laila Edwards each had a goal. Orangeville native Tessa Janecke of Penn State also had an assist, her third of the Olympics.
The USA opens up tournament play against Italy on Friday, Feb. 13. If the Americans can get past the hosts, USA will advance to the semifinals once again. America has reached the semifinal in all seven Olympic women’s hockey tournaments dating back to the first in 1998 in Nagano, Japan.
