MILAN, Italy — The United States Women’s Hockey Team has advanced to the gold medal game at the 2026 Winter Olympics following a 5-0 route of Sweden. The U.S. team has scored at least five goals in all six games of the tournament and have only allowed one goal in that stretch — a second period goal by Czechia in the opener on Feb. 5. It is the longest defensive scoreless streak of any hockey team — men’s or women’s — team in Olympics history.

In the 5-0 shutout of Sweden on Monday, February 16, USA received goals from Kendall Coyne-Schofield, Taylor Heise, Hayley Scamurra, Abbey Murphy and Cayla Barnes.

Hannah Bilka had two assists, while Murphy, Britta Curl, Kelly Pannek, Laila Edwards, Megan Keller, Lee Stecklein, Haley Wynn and Orangeville native Tessa Janecke all had assists. It was Janecke’s fifth assist of the tournament. Aerin Frankel saved 23 shots in net.

The USA will have to face its oldest and toughest rival for gold: Canada.

During the Preliminary Round Robin, USA defeated their North American neighbors 5-0 on Feb. 10.

America won gold in 1998 and 2018, while Canada has won all of the other Winter Olympic golds going back nearly 30 years. America has reached the semifinal in all eight Olympic women’s hockey tournaments dating back to the first in 1998 in Nagano, Japan.

Canada defeated Switzerland 2-1, also on Feb. 16. Switzerland will face Sweden in the Bronze Medal game at 7:40 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19, with USA-Canada dropping the puck at 12:10 p.m. that same day. All games are available to stream live on Peacock.
