JANESVILLE - Swimming at the Janesville Parker Relays Saturday gave Monroe girls swimming coach Linda Moser an opportunity to experiment.
Monroe finished eighth out of nine teams with 66 points. However, the Cheesemakers had just about every relay finish in the top five.
"I use it to see what we have and to see how much versatility we have," Moser said.
The Cheesemakers' 300-yard backstroke relay team of Jess Moehn, Leanna Schwartzlow, Rachel Root and Angie Beaver finished third with a time of 3 minutes, 9.59 seconds.
The Cheesemakers' 300 breaststroke relay team of Cat Weeden, Root, Sarah Kind and Schwartzlow took third with a time of 3:42.83.
"I think we have more depth in the breaststroke and backstroke than I thought we had," Moser said.
Milton outdistanced Fort Atkinson 134-115 for the championship Saturday.
Moser said the Cheesemakers are still looking to fill out the lineup with 200 and 500 freestyle swimmers.
"That's a really tough race because it's an all out sprint," she said of the 200 freestyle.
Moser said relay events give her a chance to mix up the lineup to get individual times on various swimmers competing in different strokes.
"I was very pleased with how we did," Moser said. "We can't go anywhere, but forward."
Monroe will swim in the Badger South Relays at 5 p.m. at Stoughton Tuesday.
