Two ’Birds named all-conference

Darlington junior shortstop Bethany McDonald was recently named first team all-conference. McDonald flourished in the leadoff role and was a stable presence in the field for the young and inexperienced Redbirds.

DARLINGTON — Redbird junior Bethany McDonald was recently named first team all-conference by the Southwest Wisconsin Activities League.

McDonald was joined by senior teammate Chelsea Golackson, who was honorable mention.

The Redbirds, coached by Molly Rice, finished conference play with a 2-12 record, tied with Riverdale at the bottom of the standings.

Mineral Point (13-1) won the conference. The Pointers were led by Coach of the Year Quinn Schultz and league Player of the Year sophomore Lauren James. In all, Mineral Point had four first-team all-conference players and one honorable mention. Boscobel, which finished second with an 11-3 record, had four players honored. Cuba City (10-4) and Southwestern (8-6) also had four; Fennimore (3-11) and Iowa-Grant (7-7) three; and Riverdale had one.
