MONROE - Beloit Turner's Seth Smith tossed a three-hit shutout to lead the Trojans to a 4-0 win over Monroe in the regular season finale Thursday.

Monroe (14-12, 3-9 Badger South) committed five errors. Smith struck out seven to get the win.

"It wasn't one of our better defensive efforts," Monroe coach Dustin Huffman said. "We were kind of flat tonight."

Monroe earned a No. 3 regional seed and will host Brodhead-Juda in a WIAA Division 2 regional quarterfinal Tuesday. If the Cheesemakers win, they would play Beloit Turner again on Wednesday in a regional semifinal.

Huffman said that is why senior Logan Weckerly didn't pitch against the Trojans Thursday. The Cheesemakers used three pitchers in the regular season finale and they combined on a four-hitter. Monroe junior Taylor Meir pitched two innings and gave up just one earned run on three hits. Junior teammate Brent Edmunds pitched two innings and gave up three runs - just one earned run and walked three. Senior Lucas Neuenschwander pitched three shutout innings in relief.

Monroe sophomore Hogan Edwards went 2-for-2 to lead the Cheesemakers. Senior Carter Adkins hit a triple for the only other hit.

"The kid (Smith) did a nice job of mixing up his pitches in the zone," Huffman said. "Hogan, Caret and Garrett Gogin are the only ones that hit the ball hard. Garrett hit two ropes, but they made a diving catch."
