ARGYLE - Jessica Treuthardt envisioned pitching a no-hitter before even taking the mound on Thursday against Pecatonica.

The sophomore's visualization became a reality as Treuthardt tossed a no-hitter and got plenty of help from the Argyle's offense as the Orioles beat Pecatonica 10-0 in five innings.

"That was my goal for this game," Treuthardt said of throwing a no-hitter. "It's my first one ever. I worked hard to get that one."

Treuthardt walked the first two batters, but then cruised and retired 14 straight hitters. She struck out three and forced the Vikings into nine ground ball outs.

"After I got those walks it really helped me because then I relaxed and just threw because I knew I wasn't going to have a perfect game," she said.

Argyle (10-7, 6-3 Six Rivers East) scored five runs in the first inning while Pecatonica pitcher Julia Meyer struggled with her control. Argyle's Rachel Tollakson led off the first by lining a single to center. Frida Cuevas moved her into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt and Danielle Treuthardt singled. Junior Kayla Ostby then reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. Kim Pink, who was 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs, then delivered a bloop RBI single to right. Meyer then walked in three runs with the bases loaded. Pecatonica relief pitcher Emily Scoville also walked in a run to give the Orioles a 5-0 lead. Meyer and Scoville combined to walk eight batters.

"She (Treuthardt) pitched the ball well and put the ball where she needed to," Pecatonica coach Chuck Meyer said. "She made the big pitches when she needed to. On the contrary, we didn't do that. We have to tip our caps to them and give credit where credit is due.

"When the going gets tough, we have to dig down and get out of the hole. Sometimes we dig ourselves into a hole and we can't dig out of it. I think we have to get more mentally tough. We stumbled tonight."

Cuevas led off the fourth with a single and Danielle Treuthardt, who was 2-for-4, reached on a fielder's choice. Ostby then crushed an RBI triple to center. Ostby also came in to score when the Vikings (7-12, 2-8) had a wild throw to the plate to give the Orioles a 7-0 lead. Pink followed with a inside-the-park home run to center.

"We are getting back healthy and getting in sync like we were at the beginning of the year," Argyle coach Dan Treuthardt said. "We just had a fire lit under us. It's fun to watch them hit the ball and drive it around the park."

Pink was surprised when Dan Treuthardt sent her home to complete an inside-the-park home run - the first home run of her career.

"I just thought I would maybe get to third," Pink said. "I was just hoping I wouldn't get thrown out. It's a confidence booster."

The Orioles had eight hits including three for extra bases. Dan Treuthardt is confident the Orioles can continue hitting.

"I totally expect them to carry this over into the playoffs," he said. "My freshmen aren't freshmen any more. They have had the at-bats and you could see them with the patience up there."

Argyle will host Barneveld in a regional quarterfinal on Thursday, May 24 and Pecatonica will play at Williams Bay.
