MCFARLAND - McFarland, the top-ranked Division 2 girls swim team, won 10 of the 11 events and coasted to a 128-42 Badger South Conference dual meet win over Monroe-New Glarus on Tuesday.

The lone win for the Cheesemakers came from Monroe senior Skylar Lassen, who won the 100-meter backstroke in a time of 1 minute, 13.61 seconds. It was about one second ahead of McFarland's Kya Billmann.

McFarland was the Division 2 state runner-up last year. Monroe-New Glarus drops to 2-3, 0-3 Badger South in dual meets.

"I was hoping to see the girls not give up in the water," Monroe-New Glarus coach Linda Moser said. "They did follow through with that. There were some races where we were 25 meters behind, but you would never know it because they kept kicking and kept a positive attitude."

New Glarus junior Maddie Hammer finished second in the 100 freestyle (1:04.7), and sophomore Nina Schiro placed second in the 500 freestyle (5:06.50).

The Spartans took the top two spots in eight events - the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle relay, 100 breaststroke and 400 freestyle relay.

McFarland topped Monroe-New Glarus in the junior varsity meet 91-24.
