MONROE - Monroe senior Meaghan Tomasiewicz keeps getting better at the pole vault with every meet.

Tomasiewicz cleared 10-feet-4-inches in the pole vault to break her pervious school record of 10-3. Monroe tied Burlington for second place in the pole vault at the 43rd annual Simpson Relays with a combined height of 24-feet-6-inches.

"Meaghan Tomasiewicz had a fantastic day in the pole vault," Monroe girls track coach Curt Miller said. "She has a lot left in the tank. She will be better the rest of the season."

Burlington edged Monroe for third overall as a team, 66-60. Sun Prairie (121 points) repeated as Simpson Relay champions and has now won the event three of the last four years. Monroe was the only Division 2 track team at the Simpson Relays.

"We like to perform well at our home meet," Miller said. "We knew Sun Prairie was loaded coming in. It's a nice chance to compete with some really good teams. We didn't have plans to win it. Our goal was to go out and compete against some really good teams."

The Cheesemakers' 800-meter medley relay team of Maria Eberle, Ty Gibson, Jaclyn Ditter and Stephanie Wyss finished second with a time of 1 minute, 56.1 seconds. The same quartet took third in the 800 relay with a time of 1:52.3.

"We haven't had a relay team that fast this early since I have been the coach," Miller said. "We have a lot of depth. It's good for us because we will be a good dual meet and relay team because we have a lot of people who are of the same high caliber."

The Cheesemakers' trio of Jess Leu, Carmen Lawver and Shelbey Metcalf took second place in the discus with a combined distance of 289-9. Leu led the Cheesemakers with a throw of 101-0 in the discus.

"It was nice to see all three of them throw over 90-feet," Miller said. "They had a little something to prove today."

Monroe finished third place in the high jump with a team of Wyss, Tomasiewicz and Britney Johnson combining to jump of 14-0.

Monroe also added a third place finish in the shuttle hurdle relay.
