MONROE - Senior Niven Tomasiewicz posted a hat trick Thursday, scoring three goals in his final home match to power the Monroe High School boys soccer team to an 11-1 rout of Janesville Parker in a nonconference game at Honey Creek Park.
The game was called in the 82nd minute due to the 10-goal mercy rule after Monroe senior Ian Salzwedel scored his second goal of the game. Seven players scored goals for Monroe (7-10-1, 1-5 Badger South).
"We knew they (Janesville Parker) were having a tough season," Monroe coach Tony Vasquez said. "We have really been working hard on the guys to get as many people involved as they can. To see so many people score was really nice."
Monroe freshman Nick Schumacher scored one goal and had four assists, and freshman Anthany Hernandez scored one goal and had three assists.
Tomasiewicz scored his first goal on an assist from junior Ryne Miller at 10 minutes,
1 second. Sophomore teammate Dempzy Foley scored an unassisted goal at 15:21. Tomasiewicz scored his second goal on a pass from Schumacher to give the Cheesemakers a 3-0 lead. Schumacher then scored a goal on an assist from Tomasiewicz. Salzwedel scored his first goal at 42:03 to give the Cheesemakers an insurmountable 5-0 lead at the half.
The Cheesemakers tacked on six more goals in the second half. Junior Silas Setterstrom scored on a pass from Hernandez at 55:23 to give the Cheesemakers a 6-1 lead. Hernandez scored a goal on a pass from Schumacher at 61:12. Tomasiewicz scored his third goal on an assist from Hernandez at 61:57 to give the Cheesemakers an 8-1 lead.
Monroe's Dagon Rach scored a goal on a pass from Hernandez at 77:01, and Nick Borowitz added a goal on an assist from Schumacher at 81:08.
"It helps builds confidence," Vasquez said. "Hopefully, they can keep it going. One of the problems we have had is they haven't trusted their other players. Our freshmen who played outside mids really got everyone involved. They trusted their teammates. If they use the other players they will be able to finish."
Monroe will play at Evansville in a WIAA regional game Oct. 22.
