MONROE - For the third straight year, Monroe senior Eric Timm won a first-place medal in the Monroe Best Ball tournament Saturday at the Monroe Country Club.

Timm and junior Matt Miller, as Monroe's top two golfers, teamed up to shoot a tournament-best 76. Timm and Miller birdied No. 15 and racked up 11 pars including on No. 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, 11, 13, 14, 16 and 18.

"They just play the front nine a lot," Monroe coach Braden Rindy said. "They are used to it, comfortable with it and know the distances. They rely on each other and trust each other."

Milton edged the Cheesemakers 237-240 for the team title.

The Cheesemakers' top three groups outdueled the Red Hawks by two strokes. However, Milton's No. 3 group of golfers edged the Cheesemakers 82-87. Monroe freshman Nick Baumann and sophomore Tanner Thompson finished second overall shooting a 77. Baumann and Thompson had nine pars and birdied No. 5.

"I like the competitiveness of how close they are," Rindy said. "They push each other. We are definitely right there. We are excited and looking forward to playing them again in a regular dual."

Monroe's Kyle Krebs and Eric Bush shot an 87.

Monroe finished third place at the 16-team Evansville Invitational Friday. Timm carded an 83 for third place.

"He's always had the ability to shoot a low score," Rindy said. "He is getting more consistent. "He's a good leader and he lads by example."

Badger South Conference rival Oregon won the Evansville Invite with a 333. Lodi shot a 348, which was three shots better than Monroe (351). Rindy wasn't satisfied with a third-place finish.

"We were disappointed with third," Rindy said. "We thought it was our tournament to take."

Baumann shot at 88 and Miller shot an 89. Krebs finished with a 93 and Thompson carded a 101.
