CUBA CITY - The Brodhead girls basketball team got off to a slow start and lost 66-50 to River Ridge in the title game of the Cuba City Classic Thursday.
River Ridge outscored the Cardinals 19-1 in the first quarter. Brodhead trailed by 22 points at halftime.
Brodhead sophomore Amanda Pickel scored 12 points on four 3-pointers to lead the Cardinals. Brodhead sophomore Taylor Douglas and freshman Meg Duffield also scored eight.
The Cardinals (3-5, 2-1 Rock Valley South) shot just 10 of 28 from the free-throw line.
Juda 56, Williams Bay 9
PALMYRA - The Juda girls basketball team played a suffocating defense and rolled to a 56-9 win over Williams Bay in the championship of the Palmyra-Eagle tournament Thursday.
Juda (8-2, 2-1 Six Rivers East) opened the game with a 14-2 surge in the first quarter. The Panthers led 29-2 at halftime and every player scored. The Panthers hit six 3-pointers. The Panthers outscored Williams Bay 21-2 in the third quarter.
"We knew we just wanted to come out with some defensive pressure and we did," Juda coach Curt Brown said. "The girls responded."
Juda junior C.J. Dunwiddie scored 11 points and hit three 3-pointers. Fellow junior Ellen Kiser, who was double and triple teamed all game, scored 10. Amber Ramos, Katlyn DeVoe and Alycia Grenzow each scored eight for the Panthers.
"For everyone to step up for us it was beneficial," Brown said.
Darlington 56, Parkview 38
DARLINGTON - The Redbirds had three players in double figures and they cruised to a non-conference win.
The Redbirds (5-2, 3-0 SWAL) jumped out to a 11-8 lead and led 31-15 at halftime.
Darlington junior Amy Jorgenson scored 14 points to lead the Redbirds. Darlington's Elizabeth Mathias and Claire Scott each scored 10 points and Cassidy Chambers added eight.
Southwestern 53, Argyle 39
ARGYLE - Danielle Treuthardt and Kayla Ostby combined to score 22 points and made five 3-pointers, but it wasn't enough for the Orioles.
Argyle (0-7, 0-3 Six Rivers East) led 23-21 at halftime, but the Orioles were outscored 32-16 in the second half. Treuthardt scored 13 points and Ostby scored all nine of her points on three 3-pointers.
Argyle junior Katie Dammen scored eight points and junior Cortney Gilbertson added seven.
