MONROE - The WWF Kids State Folkstyle State Championships was held Friday and Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Madison.

Chelsey Gilbert won a state championship in the girls 2005-07 bracket at 150 pounds. Competing but not placing were Garret Voegeli in the boys 2002-03 bracket at 80 pounds and Owen Voegeli in the boys 2006-07 bracket at 57 pounds.

Gilbert and Garret Voegeli qualified by placing in the top two in their respective age and weight division at the regional qualifier in Sauk Prairie. Owen Voegeli was an alternate in his age and weight division but was called up when one of the wrestlers in his group dropped out.

Other Green County Family YMCA Mat Rat wrestlers who also wrestled in the regional qualifier in Sauk Prairie were Jack Dubach, Jaden Leistiko, Brady Schuh, Christian Schuh and Noah Schuh.

Some Mat Rats will finish up the season at the national meet in Cedar Falls, Iowa, March 30 through April 2. The end-of-season banquet for the Mat Rats will be April 9 at the Green County Family YMCA.
