Three grapplers win state titles

MADISON - The Wisconsin Wrestling Federation Kids State Folkstyle State Championships were held Friday and Saturday at the Alliant Energy Center at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Madison. Several area athletes competed and three local boys captured state championships.

Three YMCA Mat Rats placed at state in their 16-wrestler brackets. Jack Dubach was the state champion in the 2005-2006 bracket at 81 pounds. Patrick Rielly placed third in the 2001-2002 bracket at 145 pounds; and Bodie Minder took fifth in the 2001-02 bracket at 190 pounds.

Black Hawk had four athletes qualify for the state tournament: Cayden Milz, Seth Dunlavey, Owen Huschitt and Owen Seffrood. Seffrood battled for a 4-0 record to earn the state championship in the 72-pound weight class.

The Brodhead Youth Wrestling Club had five athletes compete: Cole Hoesly, Taetum Hoesly, Marcus McIntyre, Dax Benton and Brooks Malkow. Malkow went 4-0 in the tournament and was crowned the overall champion in the 105-pound weight class.
