STOUGHTON - Samantha Tepp was a thorn in the side of the Monroe softball team Tuesday.
Tepp went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI to propel Stoughton to an 8-5 win over Monroe. It's the first conference loss for the Cheesemakers, who drop to 7-3, 6-1 Badger South.
The Vikings scored two runs in the first, second and third innings to jump out to a 6-1 lead. Monroe junior pitcher Natalie Dillon pitched six innings and gave up seven earned runs on nine hits. She struck out five and walked two.
"It's tough to beat a good team on the road," Monroe coach Dale Buvid said. "I told the kids before the game that we would have to bring our A-game to beat them again and we didn't. If you had told me that we would have scored five runs before the game, I probably would have taken that. You have to give them credit for hitting. Stoughton was clicking on all cylinders. We weren't as sharp as we had to be on the road."
Stoughton's Sarah Seaton pitched a complete game to get the win. She gave up three earned runs on eight hits. Seaton struck out six and walked two.
"She was a first-team all-conference pitcher with Natalie last year," Buvid said.
Dillon went 2-for-3 with two doubles and junior Hannah Vetterli was 2-for-3 to lead the Cheesemakers at the plate. Monroe senior Kari Jordan was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Monroe will play at Milton Thursday and will play at Brodhead at 4:45 p.m. Friday.
Buvid said he's trying to reschedule the Monroe Invitational tournament that was rained out Saturday.
