MONROE - For two Blums and a Trickel, the time to ram a car into another has come.
Veronica Blum, Justin Blum and Jacob Trickel have been working on getting their cars ready and painted for this weekend's demolition derby in Pecatonica, Ill.
The trio will participate in the Future Icons division, made for rookies ages 13-19.
"Their dads have (competed), so they've seen it all. Been there, done that," said Valerie Blum, Veronica and Justin's mother. "But this is the first time they can drive."
Veronica, 15, just got her drivers permit, according to her mother.
"She's been driving just a little bit, but they drive dirt bikes, too," Valerie said.
Justin and Jacob, both 14, will get to put the pedal to the metal earlier than most kids.
Going against other drivers who have more driving experience, Valerie said, she is feeling a little nervous about her two children and their friend.
"I'm a little nervous. They are all very excited, though. They said they aren't worried, but I'm sure they are," she said.
The event is today at 2 p.m., but Valerie said her two kids had been in Pecatonica getting the cars ready.
"They've been painting their cars all week, and that makes it seem a little more real," she said.
