MONROE - For hometown favorite, Juda's Chris Swedlund's bull-riding experience in the Green County Bulls and Barrels competition at the 163rd annual Green County Fair didn't go as planned.

Swedlund rode a bull for 2.6 seconds Wednesday before getting bucked off. The Green County Bulls and Barrels show at the fair featured 20 bull riders, and the top eight earned a spot in the finals.

After the first round, lightning flashed and a severe thunderstorm hit the Green County area. Hundreds of fans were sent scurrying under the grandstand and into barns at the fair.

"I felt pretty good when I started out," Swedlund said. "I got my foot kicked out. I took a turn and couldn't keep my right foot in there. Even though I got bucked off my family and friends were still there cheering me on."

Since Swedlund didn't ride the bull for 8 seconds, he didn't receive a score. Riders and the bull receive a score from zero to 25 from two judges. The leader with the top score after the first round was Dakota Nye of Stevenville, Texas, with a score of 89. The remaining rounds were canceled due to the storm.

Swedlund was coming off a bull-riding title Saturday in the Upper Peninsula Championship Rodeo in Iron River, Michigan.

"It's off to the next rodeo," he said.
