Sullivan carries Albany to victory

ALBANY - Senior Clinton Sullivan went 3-for-3 with a home run and six RBI to power Albany to an 11-5 win over Monticello in a WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal Tuesday.

"He (Sullivan) has been hitting the ball better," Albany coach Mitch Heinenmeyer said. "He has been hitting the ball really well especially late. We expect him to hit the ball, but that went beyond what we expected."

Albany (9-14) pounded out 14 hits and had a four-run third inning to take a 6-0 lead. With the win, Albany advances to play at No. 2 seed Williams Bay today.

Monticello junior Logan Marty went 2-for-3 with a home run, double and two RBI.

The Comets got 12 of their 14 hits from the top five batters in the order.

"They set the table for us and we got the runs in," Heinenmeyer said.

Albany sophomore Brock Gilkes went 3-for-4 with a triple and senior Joey McNaught went 3-for-4 with a double. Albany's Travis Oliver was 2-for-4.

Albany's Mitchell Trow got the win, pitching a complete game. He gave up three earned runs on eight hits. Trow struck out 11 and walked one.

Monticello sophomore Trent Siegenthaler pitched six innings and gave up eight earned runs on 14 hits. He struck out seven and walked two.



Waterloo 5, New Glarus 1

WATERLOO - Ben Lincks had three hits and struck out eight on the mound to propel Waterloo to a 5-1 win over New Glarus in a WIAA Division 3 regional quarterfinal game Tuesday.

The Glarner Knights carried a 1-0 lead into the fifth inning. The Pirates rallied to score three runs in the fifth and two runs in the sixth.

Hayden Latsch went 2-for-3 to lead New Glarus. Senior teammate Koner French pitched five innings and gave up three earned runs on five hits. French struck out one and walked four. Freshman teammate Jared Carney pitched one inning and gave up one run. He struck out two and walked four.

In other action, Black Hawk beat Faith Christian 8-1.
