Sugar River's streak of Dr. Stiles titles ends

MONROE - The Sugar River swim team's run of four straight Dr. Stiles Invitational team titles was snapped on Saturday as Platteville swam to the championship.

Platteville racked up 1,211 points to win the 62nd annual Dr. Stiles Invitational at the city pool at Recreation Park. The Monroe Area Swim Team finished second (1,028) followed by Sugar River (955.5) in the nine-team meet.

Monroe's Anna Zentner, 8, took three individual events in the girls 8-year-old and younger division, winning the 50-meter freestyle (51.82 seconds), the 25-meter butterfly (25.94) and 25 backstroke (28.79). Teammate Megan Chapman, 8, won the 25 breaststroke (32.99) and took second place in the 50 freestyle (55.01) and second in the 25 butterfly (29.62). Madeline Josephs, 8, of Monroe finished first in the 25 meter freestyle (26.28) and second in the 25 backstroke (29.37).

For Sugar River, Amalia Morrison took second in the 25 freestyle (28.30) and teammate Maggie Piper was second in the 25 breaststroke (36.66).

Sugar River's 10-year-old and younger 200 freestyle relay team of Delaney Lynch, Hoesly, Camryn Arnett and Wahl finished second (1:40.95). Monroe's 200 freestyle relay team of Emma Tran, Chapman, Voegeli and Zentner took third (1:41.63).

Sugar River's Nina Schiro, 15, won three individual events in the girls 15- to 18-year-old division including the 50 freestyle (35.61), 50 backstroke (40.16) and the 200 individual medley (3:15.25).

Monroe's Emily Meritt finished first in the 50 butterfly (40.98) and took third in the 50 freestyle (37.17) and third in the 50 backstroke (45.38).

Belleville's Zoe Rule, 13, won the girls 13- to 14-year-old 50 freestyle (36.19), 50 butterfly (39.37) and finished first in the 50 backstroke (43.10).

Meritt teamed with Rose Tacey, Anna Meritt and Kayleigh Nesbitt to take second in the event with a time of 2:40.60.

Sugar River's Kendra Wenger, Keaten Zimmerman and Sammie Schiro helped the Rapids take second in the 200 freestyle relay (2:51.47).

Monroe's Elsa Schaefer, 12, won the girls 11- to 12-year-old 50 breaststroke (48.63) and took second in the 100 freestyle (1:31.92). Monroe's Isabel Henry, 12, took third in the 50 freestyle (38.04.

Belleville's Ava Foley, 12, finished first in the 50 freestyle (37.32) and won the 50 butterfly (40.33).

Sugar River's Sammie Schiro, 12, finished first in the 100 freestyle (1:30.57) band took second in the 50 butterfly (45.95).

Monroe's Taylor Rufer, 12, added a third-place finish in the 100 freestyle (1:35.05) to give Monroe two of the top three in the event. Rufer also took third in the 50 backstroke (49.56).

Monroe's 200 freestyle relay team of Ava Scace, Norma Parr, Jadyn Schwartzlow and Rufer won the event with a time of 3:07.12.

Henry teamed with Parr, Scace and Schwartzlow to take third in the 200 medley relay (3:48.73).

Sugar River's Riley Hoesly, 10, won the girls 9- and 10-year-old 100 freestyle (1:56.18).

Belleville's Lindsey Schadewalt won the 50 freestyle (47.26) and finished first in the 50 backstroke (57.59) just ahead of runner-up Hoesly.

Sugar River's Natalie Wahl, 10, added a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle (47.65), which was 0.39 seconds behind Belleville's Lindsey Schadewalt.

Monroe's Aubrie Voegeli, 9, finished first in the 50 breaststroke (1:03.09) and took second in the 50 butterfly (1:07.56).

Belleville's Samantha Frey added a second-place finish in the 50 breaststroke (1)4.73).

In the 10 and younger 100 medley relay, Voegeli teamed with Kristina Foley, Zentner and Josephs to finish second (1:50.66).

Cassi Gersbach, 14, finished second in the girls 13- to 14-year-old 100 freestyle (1:26.41) and took third in the 50 breaststroke (55.02).

In the boys' 13- to 14-year-old division, Landon Knobel finished second in the 100 freestyle (1:32.99) and third in the 50 freestyle (39.32) and third in the 50 breaststroke (53.63). Belleville's Hunter Lindstrom, 13, took second in the 50 backstroke (50.89).

In the boys 11- to 12-year-old division, Monroe's Zachary Meighan, 12, won the 50 breaststroke (54.59) and finished first in the 50 butterfly (46.69).

Sugar River's Emery Johnson, 11, finished first in the 50 freestyle (43.87). Jonathan Tacey, 11 of Monroe finished second in the 100 freestyle (1:52.06).

Jacob Piper, 11 of Sugar River, won the 50 backstroke (55.24).

In the 200 medley relay, Sugar River's Karson Wenger teamed with Emery Johnson, Piper and Grady Johnson to win the relay with a time of 4:17.91.

The quartet of Milo Johnson, Wenger, Emery Johnson and Piper for Sugar River also won the 200 freestyle relay (3:28.38).

Sugar River's Grady Johnson, 8, won the boys 8 and younger 25 freestyle (25.21) and took the top spot in the 50 freestyle (57.34). Teammate Tyse Hoesly, 7, took second in the 25 butterfly (40.24).

Sugar River's Milo Johnson, 8, won the 25 backstroke (32.11) and took second in the 25 breaststroke (37.40).

Belleville's Jackson Scholey won the 25 breaststroke (34.70) and was second in the 25 backstroke (34.74).

Belleville's Carter Scholey, 10, won the 50 freestyle (45.94) and the 50 butterfly (51.82).

In the 10 and younger 100 freestyle relay, Sugar River's Milo Johnson, Brendan Dallmann, Tyse Hoesly and Grady Johnson took second (2:11.15).
