Sugar River takes 2nd at Wis. Dells invite

WISCONSIN DELLS - The Sugar River wrestling team had four wrestlers finish in the top four at the Wisconsin Dells Invitational Saturday.

The Raiders finished second out of 12 teams. Grand Meadown-Le Roy-Ostrander-Kingsland captured the team title with 183 points, which was just ahead of runner-up Wisconsin Dells (175).

Sugar River junior Danny Enloe (19-10) finished second place at heavyweight. After a first-round bye, Enole pinned Watertown's James Sippel in 30 seconds. In a title match, Clayton Luthe of Grand Meadown-Le Roy-Ostrander-Kingsland pinned Enole in 5:08.

Sugar River freshman Joe Quaglia (106), senior Max Gerner (132), senior Trevor Enloe (138) each took fourth. Quaglia (22-9) defeated North Crawford-Seneca's Raiden Steele 8-2 in a first-round match. In the semifinals, Brillon's Grant Geiger beat Quaglia 5-0. Waunakee's Kolby Heinz then knocked him off in a third-place match 6-0.

At 132, Gerner pinned Brillon's Joe Fischer in his first match in 3:46. Watertown's Julian Ruiz then pinned him in a semifinal in 52 seconds. In a third-place match, Daniel Smith of Grand Meadown-Le Rroy-Ostrander-Kingsland defeated Gerner 12-1.

Trevor Enloe also got off to a hot start in his first match defeating Brillon's Karter Trace 10-4. In a semifinal match, Christian Jacobsen of Grand Meadown-Le Roy-Ostrander-Kingsland pinned him in 1:47. Cashton's Tristin Grant then pinned Enloe in 4:25 in a third-place match.



Brodhead-Juda takes 9th in Saturday's Deerfield Scramble

DEERFIELD - The Brodhead-Juda wrestling team had three wrestlers finish in the top five at the Deerfield Scramble Saturday.

Brodhead-Juda senior Trent Davis (220) took second and junior Jackson Hauri (152) finished third. Senior teammate Kaleb Erb (160) took fifth. Brodhead-Juda finished ninth (356) in the 18-team tournament. Kewaunee captured the team title with 618 points, which was well ahead of second-place Kenosha Christian Life (564).

Davis (25-7), ranked No. 12 in the Wisconsin Wrestling Online state poll, breezed by his first match after a bye. He defeated Madison La Follette's Michael Wolfe 8-3. Cedar Grove-Belgium's Brett Feind edged Davis on a tiebreaker 5-4. He bounced back slipping by Kewaunee's Kyle Steinhorst 4-2 and pulling out a 3-1 tiebreaker win in overtime over Zach Descourouez of Kenosha Christian Life.

Hauri (25-1), ranked No. 4 at 152, pinned Kewaunee's Dylan Steinhorst in 1:44 after a first-round bye. He edged Cedar Grove-Belgium's Bryce Morgan 4-2. Hauri rolled to a 15-3 win over Brookfield East's Hunter Fischer. Random Lake's Aiden Vanderbush slipped by Hauri 4-3.

At 160, Erb (22-6) pinned Stoughton's Andy Valdez in 1:37. Cedar Grove-Belgium's Griffin Prinsen beat Erb 7-2. Erb responded with a technical fall win over Martin Luther's Angel Cortes, 17-1 in 4:48. He then defeated Random Lake's Brock Upson 7-1. In his final match, Erb pinned Kewaunee's Michael Barribeau in 37 seconds.
