Sugar River sweeps titles

MAZOMANIE - At the Capitol Conference meet on Tuesday, the Sugar River Raiders swept the competition, finishing as both the boys and girls overall champions.

On the boys side, the Raiders crowned four conference champions to go along with a slew of top finishers. Kelvin Johnson posted a time of 16.18 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles en route to winning the event. Teammate Colton Boley finished second. Adding a second title to his night, Johnson won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 42.05. Boley finished third.

Division 1 recruit Garrison Woods won the triple jump with a length of 42 feet, 2.5 inches for the Raiders. Woods also finished second in the high jump and long jump. Teammate Landon Zimmerman won the discus with a length of 147 feet, 9 inches while also finishing second in the shot put.

Second-place finishers for the boys squad included Tyler Gilbertson (800 and 1,600 meters), Tucker McMahan (3,200 meters), and the 400-, 800-, 1,600-, and 3,200-meter relay teams. Third-place finishers were: Max Cruse (3200 meters), Mitchell DeLorme (high jump), Brandon Schemanski (long jump), Jackson McMahan (shot put) and Joey Beil (discus).

Performing just as well, the Sugar River girls squad also crowned four conference champions. In the 3,200 meters Noelle Austin finished with a best time of 12 minutes, 12.56 seconds. Krista Diaz won the 100- and 300-meter hurdles with times of 16.23 and 49.07 seconds, respectively. Rounding out the Raiders first-place finishers was the 3,200-meter relay team, winning with a time of 10:42.05.

Second-place finishes for the Raiders were: Emily Denure (800 meters), Brianne Roska (1,600 and 3,200 meters), Trisha Wiese (high jump), and the girls 400-meter relay team. Third-place finishes included: Logan Fahey (100 meters), Grace Schulting (400 meters, long jump and triple jump), Lauren O'Connor (800 meters), Ashley Clark (pole vault), and the 800-meter relay team.
