Sugar River sweeps dual meet

BELLEVILLE - Both the Sugar River boys and girls track teams swept a double dual against Wisconsin Heights and Marshall Monday, April 29.

The Sugar River boys track team defeated Marshall 78-68 and routed Wisconsin Heights 121-25. The Sugar River girls track team knocked off Marshall 90-56 and defeated Wisconsin Heights 95-46.

Sugar River senior Ryan McCoy won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4 minutes, 43.83 seconds, and he finished first in the 3,200 (10:27.19). Junior Kelvin Johnson won the 110 high hurdles (:17.32) and the 300 hurdles (:40.10). Junior Garrison Woods finished first in the long jump (21 feet, 1/2 inch) as well as first in the triple jump (42-4 1/2). Teammate Max Eggenberger finished first in the 400 (:53.27) and Alexander Yeiser won the 800 (2:02.74). Eggenberger teamed with Tyler Gilbertson, Tucker McMahon and Zach Meyer to take first in the 3,200 relay (9:00.86).

Sugar River's Emily Diaz won three individual events including the 100 (:13.15), 400 (1:05.24) and 300 hurdles (:51.86). Alexis Hanson won the 200 (:26.69) and Madeline Brunner finished first in the 800 (2:28.38). Bri Roska won the 3,200 (13;23.02).

The Raiders' 1,600 relay team of Brunner, Emily DeNure, Ashley Clark and Hanson finished first (4;39.18), which was about three seconds ahead of Wisconsin Heights. Brunner and DeNure teamed with Sam Barr and Kerry McCoy to win the 3,200 relay with a time of 10:31.53.

Sugar River's Sabrina Popenfus won the high jump (4-8), Clark took first in the pole vault (7-0) and Harley Hollis won the triple jump (30-0).
