Sugar River girls capture Capitol South track and field title

CAMBRIDGE - The Sugar River girls track team ran to a Capitol South Conference championship on Tuesday.

Lakeside Lutheran racked up 177 total points to win the overall Capitol Conference title over Lodi (129). Sugar River placed third (85) but was the top team in the Capitol South.

Sugar River junior Noelle Marie won a conference championship in the 3,200-meter run in 11 minutes, 23.96 seconds.

The Sugar River boys took seventh overall in the conference meet and were second in the South with 53 points, which snapped the Raiders streak of 16 straight conference titles. Marshall (62.5) won the Capitol South Conference championship. Lakeside Lutheran completed a sweep winning the overall conference championship 110.14-104.5 over Columbus.

Sugar River senior Landon Zimmerman was a conference champion in the discus with a throw of 158 feet, 2 inches.
