Sugar River falls

WAUNAKEE - The Sugar River boys soccer team scored first Friday but couldn't hold off DePere and fell 2-1 in the first round of the Waunakee Invitational.

Brock Kelly scored for Sugar River with a shot from outside the 18-yard box. Jack Gentili had an assist on the goal.

The Raiders held a 1-0 lead at halftime but an own goal and a penalty made the difference for DePere in the second half.

The game became tied when a Sugar River player tried to clear the ball but knocked it into the Raiders' goal about 10 minutes into the second half.

With 4 minutes to play, DePere scored on a penalty kick after Sugar River was called for a foul in the penalty box.
