BELLEVILLE - The storms that rolled through southern Wisconsin Tuesday didn't deter the Sugar River boys soccer team.

Sugar River moved up the start time of its varsity game and the Raiders shut out Portage-Poynette 2-0 Tuesday.

Senior Jon Fox got the Raiders on the board with a goal off an assist from Wilson Marques at 10 minutes, 47 seconds. Senior forward Brett Ellenberger added an insurance goal at 56:40 for the Raiders.

"We wanted to make sure we got this game in," Sugar River coach Matt Belknap said referencing flip flopping the start times of the varsity and junior varsity games.

Sugar River sophomore goalkeeper Alex Gocht had seven saves. Belknap credited his defense for shutting down Portage-Poynette.

"Poynette has a lot of speed," Belknap said. "Our defense did a good job of covering for each other."
