STOUGHTON - Both the Monroe girls and boys track and field teams got a preview of what it may be like at the Badger South Conference meet in a quadrangular Tuesday.

The meet was not scored, but the Monroe girls had four individuals and two relays capture wins in the quad with Oregon, Stoughton and Monona Grove.

"I think they are the top four teams in the conference," Monroe girls coach Matt Davis said. "Any one of them could win it or finish fourth at the conference meet. None of them set up to win it. None of them really wanted to show their hand."

Since the Badger Conference eliminated dual meets about five years ago with a switch to just one conference meet, they also switched to conference quad and triangular meets during the regular season.

"We wanted to use this more as a conditioning," Davis said.

Monroe senior Jordan Hirsbrunner won both the 100-meter hurdles (15.7 seconds) and the 300 hurdles (45.54).

Senior Josie Eberle won the pole vault (9 feet, 6 inches).

"The next hurdle for Josie is 10 feet," Davis said. "She's almost there."

Lexus Trickel won the triple jump (31-63⁄4).

"She's capable of a 32 or 33," Davis said of Trickel.

Senior Alicia Kuester missed the meet due to an ankle injury.

"When Alicia comes back that will give us even more firepower in the triple jump," Davis said.

The Cheesemakers' 400 relay team of Eberle, Faith Koester, Casey Rielly and Cammi Ganshert won in a time of 52.67 seconds. Eberle teamed with Sydney Mathiason, Mya Waterman and Rachel Meier to win the 1,600 relay in 4 minutes, 24.85 seconds.

"I think we could have run faster if our sticks (handoffs) were better," Davis said. "Our sticks were not perfect."

The Cheesemakers' 800 relay team of Eberle, Cassi Gersbach, Koester and Ganshert finished second (1:50.23).

In the boys' quad, Monroe junior Dylan Scace won the 3,200, finishing in 9:58 to break 10 minutes for the first time.

Jason Koller took second in the 800 (2:05) , and Andy Johnson finished second in the pole vault (10-0).

Junior Brayden Zettle competed in the high jump for the first time and placed second (5-8).

The Cheesemakers' 800 relay team of Zettle, Jevon Gibson, Sam Kind and Jordan Montgomery finished second (1:35.2).

"It's about the same time they ran at the regionals last year," Monroe boys coach Scott Mosher said. "They are about 3 or 4 seconds ahead of last year. We wanted to put some relays together to see where they stack up against some of the best in the conference. We got to see where we are against probably the top three teams in the conference."
