JUDA - The Juda softball team will host a "Strikeout Cancer" game against Black Hawk at 4:30 p.m. today as a fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society.

Juda softball co-coach Pam Green said the goal is to raise $1,000 for the American Cancer Society.

In addition to Kristen Bechtolt, there are three other students at the school who are battling cancer.

"I thought it would be a great thing for the community since we have a former softball player affected by cancer," Green said. "The Juda softball team thought it would be great to let them know we are thinking of them."

The Panthers hosted a pitch-a-thon April 10 and raised $800 in pledges for each strike a player threw out of 100 pitches. Jordyn Steinmann led the Panthers and raised $201 followed by Megan Trotter who raised $175.

In the Six Rivers East Conference game against Black Hawk, Juda will release a balloon for each strikeout the Panthers and Warriors record. Before the game, Juda softball players will receive a softball that they can write an inspirational message on and give it to a fan at the game.

Juda also has two fund-raising containers at the Sugar River Bank of Juda and Owin's Oasis. The softball team has also sold dye cut softballs for $1 at school.

Brandon Broshous, a Juda junior who is battling cancer, will throw out the first pitch. The Panthers will have two honorary guests in the dugout including Kristen Weber, a sixth grader and Brayden Lincicum, a second grader who both have recovered from leukemia.

Juda will play its first "Strikeout Cancer" game against Black Hawk today and will play in another at New Glarus on Friday. Juda will host a pep rally at 2:20 p.m. today.
