STOUGHTON - Ben Cleveland's prayers were answered with an improbable goal against Monroe.
Cleveland's direct free kick went off the post and in for the game-winning goal as Stoughton beat Monroe 3-2 in overtime Tuesday night.
"We outplayed them," Monroe coach Tony Stamm said. "It's just disappointing we didn't come away with a win since it was conference."
Monroe (6-8-2, 1-3 Badger South) had to overcome a 2-0 deficit. Monroe freshman Blake Duffy scored a goal at 67:24 to cut the Vikings' lead to 2-1. Monroe senior Kelli Isaj scored the game-tying goal at 78:12 to send the game into overtime.
"We felt very confident because we were winning the ball, controlling the ball and just outplaying Stoughton," Stamm said.
