STOUGHTON - Junior Troy Slaby scored a game-high 26 points and made some key free throws to propel Stoughton to a 65-50 win over Monroe Tuesday night.

Monroe (2-9, 1-5 Badger South) trailed by as many as 17 points in the second half. The Cheesemakers cut the Vikings' lead to six points with 1 minute, 30 seconds to go.

Slaby and sophomore Brady Schipper combined to go 12 of 14 from the free-throw line in the second half.

"We battled," Monroe coach Pat Murphy said. "We couldn't keep the ball out of their best player's hands. Their two guards had the ball and we got called for a lot of grabbing fouls."

Stoughton (6-4, 4-1 Badger South) made 25 of 33 free throws.

"It's a tough league," Murphy said of the Badger South.

"We thought we matched up well. We have to be better at the things that don't take any talent. We only had two offensive rebounds. We have to do a better at rebounding, passing, catching, cutting

and getting after the loose balls. We can't wait until we are down by 17 and then

do it. We have to do it from the beginning."

Monroe will play at Reedsburg on Friday.
