MONROE - The Monroe Avalanche teams were back in action this past weekend. Here are the results:
Mites (8U)
This weekend's cross-ice action was in Janesville on Sunday. In the first game, the Avalanche took on Oregon. Saving pucks between the pipes for the first time was Brodie Dahl.
In Game 2, Monroe took on Janesville, and guarding the net was Jaxson Daughenbaugh.
Goals for the day were made by Brogan Hoelscher, Jaxson Daughenbaugh, Lane Schilt, Blake Folgate, Emma Janecke and Zane Picker.
The Mites will return to Janesville next weekend at 2:20 p.m. for their last games of the regular season. On March 10-11, the Monroe Mites will travel to the Verona Mite Showdown Tournament.
Squirt A (10U)
Monroe hosted the annual Avalanche Squirt Classic over the weekend. The Avalanche welcomed five other Squirt A teams: Stevens Point Ice Hawks, Verona Wildcats, Oregon Panthers, Dubuque Jr. Fighting Saints and Milwaukee Winter Club.
The Avalanche were up first on Friday night against the Jr. Saints, and Monroe won 2-1 in overtime.
The Saints scored first, but that was answered quickly by a long shot by Benjamin Erdley that slid past the goalie to tie the game 1-1.
The game would remain tied at the end of regulation, putting the game into a 3-on-3 five-minute overtime. With 46 seconds left in OT, Jace Daughenbaugh scored the winning goal.
Brock Brandli had 14 saves in the game for Monroe.
The Avalanche were back at it early Saturday morning against the Milwaukee Winter Club, and Monroe fell 8-2.
The first period ended in a 2-2 tie with Brady Stuart and Carter Nemergut scoring unassisted for the Avalanche.
Brandli had 26 saves.
Sunday's game was a battle for third place in the tournament, and the Avalanche fell to Verona 6-0. Brandli had 27 saves.
Squirt B (10U)
Monroe Squirt B played Beloit B first early Saturday morning and lost.
The Avalanche came out strong in the first scoring two goals to take the early lead. Both goals were made by Owen Hicks.
In the second period, Beloit turned up the heat and scored four unanswered goals.
Tre Dammen put another one on the board late in the third period for the Avalanche, but it was not enough for the win.
Satchel Moorman saved 18 shots in net.
Later in the day, Squirt B took on Sauk Prairie A, but the Avalanche were shut out 8-0.
Satchel Moorman had 38 saves.
On Sunday, the Avalanche took on the Jr. Saints in a defensive battle but came out on the losing end.
Tre Dammen scored the first goal for Monroe late in the first period, and Parker Allen added two more in the third period.
Satchel Moorman had 33 saves.
Pee Wee B (12U)
The Pee Wee B Avalanche headed to McFarland in its last game before the home tournament.
The Avalanche made some improvements on passing and skated hard from beginning to end, but the McFarland A team shut out Monroe 6-0.
Monroe had 22 shots on goal. Avalanche goalie Kyle Theorin had 17 saves in the loss.
Next up is the Pee Wee home tournament, beginning at 6 p.m. Friday.
