SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: A Well-struck, Well-timed hit for Black Hawk

ALBANY - Some vintage Aryn Wellnitz overcame the fiesty Comets in a 4-2 Six Rivers East softball victory for Black Hawk on Tuesday evening.

Albany rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Wellnitz inside-outed a two-run, two-out single in the top of the seventh inning on the first pitch she saw to will the Warriors to a win.

Wellnitz was hitless before her clutch knock. Fellow senior Becca Johnson also picked up her first hit when she singled to key the final-inning rally.

Janel Rupnow, another Black Hawk senior, took a no-hitter through four innings. After Comets senior Amy Golz tripled in the first Albany run, starter Tara Walz squeezed Golz home. Then Megan Schulz hit a no-doubt longball that was just a foot or two foul to left.

"(Black Hawk coach Roger Jackson) called a timeout and went out to talk," Albany coach Connie Wunschel rehashes. "We were both adjusting."

Rupnow ended the threat on the next pitch by painting the outside corner.

SIX RIVERS EAST>

Pecatonica 9, Juda 4>

Aly Pierce walked off a winner Tuesday night, regardless of how the scorebook read.

The freshman went the distance in the only game that Juda hasn't lost by the 10-run rule this season. Pierce struck out two and walked eight.

One of Pecatonica's backup starters, senior Ashley Gant, moved from shortstop to get the win, but kept her hitter's mentality as she helped her cause with two hits.

CAPITOL SOUTH>

Belleville 7, New Glarus 0>

While the final score of the Sugar River rivalry rematch was easier to take for the Glarner Knights, the method could create sheer madness.

After being 10-runned by the Wildcats in five innings at home the first time around, New Glarus couldn't come up with a hit off Belleville senior starter Janet Fenley.

Jackie Walejko supplemented the no-hitter with a 2-for-3 day at the plate for the Wildcats.

ROCK VALLEY>

Brodhead 13, Beloit Turner 3 (6 innings)>

The Stampfli family band is singing sweet tunes for Lady Cardinal softball fans.

After combining on a one-hit, 9-0 shutout of Parkview on Monday night, freshman Erika and senior Kayla Stampfli combined Tuesday to hold off the Trojans, while their offense went wild.

Brodhead ended the game early with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth. Freshman leadoff hitter Tia Collins started the rally with a double before driving in the second-to-last run with a walk.

Jordan Riese and Taylor Chapman both had two hits for the Cardinals.

SWAL>

Iowa-Grant 10, Darlington 3>

The Lady Redbirds didn't give their new ace a very warm welcome Tuesday night.

Pitching regularly for the first time since middle school, catcher-turned-hurler junior Shawna Foulker allowed six runs in the first inning to the Panthers, due in great part to three errors behind her.

Darlington outhit Iowa-Grant, 6-5, as Foulker added a single and a triple to go with her eight strikeouts.
