BRODHEAD - The Big Red Machine got its engine humming slowly but surely in the second game of a doubleheader sweep against rival Evansville at home Saturday.

Brodhead and ace Kayla Stampfli got down, 1-0, after one inning following a 9-2 first-game rout by the Cardinals. But then the senior buckled down on the pitching plate and the offense score a run in the third, fifth and sixth to bust out the brooms.

Leadoff-hitting freshman Tia Collins led off the game-winning rally in the fifth with a single. Stampfli fanned five after pitching the last four innings of game one.
