MONROE - The first of three summer tennis tournaments sponsored by the Monroe Park & Recreation Department is slated for the weekend of June 22-23.
The 42nd annual singles tournament is open to anyone and will offer four brackets: Class A Mens, the championship flight; Class B Mens, for intermediate players; Womens Open bracket, high school ages and older; and 14 & under bracket (girls and boys) for the youth.
Brackets will close after 16 players have entered, to prevent players from playing more than two matches in one day.
The entry fee is $10 for players 14 and older and $5 for players younger than 14.
The womens' open and the 14 and younger youth brackets will start play at 8 a.m., Saturday, June 22 at Recreation Park. They will be followed by the mens' brackets at 12:30 p.m. at Recreation Park.
Final matches will be played Sunday afternoon. To register, call tournament director Jim Bartholf at 608-325-9402. Bartholf started the tournament to get children playing tennis early on.
The Monroe Park & Recreation Department will also offer doubles and mixed doubles tournaments this summer.
