MONROE - Senior Skylar Lassen, junior Maddie Hammer and sophomore Nina Schiro each won two individual events, but the Monroe-New Glarus girls swim team lost a Badger South Conference dual meet to Monona Grove 96-74 on Tuesday at the Green County Family YMCA.

The Cheesemakers won eight of the 11 events in the dual meet.

"Our goal was to swim hard and stay close with Monona Grove and we accomplished that," Monroe-New Glarus coach Linda Moser said. "With it being Senior Night it added more excitement to the evening. The difference was Monona Grove was able to secure more of the second and third spots than we were. We are a bigger team this year, but with a larger number of new swimmers than returning swimmers, this makes a difference in close meets in our conference."

Lassen won the 200-meter freestyle in a time of 2 minutes, 25.46 seconds, and she took the top spot in the 100 backstroke (1:13.40). Hammer won the 50 freestyle (29.22) and the 100 freestyle (1:04.87).

Schiro won the 200 individual medley (2:41.35) and the 400 freestyle (5:03.47). Monroe sophomore Emily Meritt won the 100 butterfly (1:19.74).

Lassen and Meritt teamed with Schiro and Hammer to win the 400 freestyle relay (4:27.36).

Monona Grove defeated Monroe-New Glarus in the junior varsity dual meet 95-45.

Monroe-New Glarus will host Oregon in its final home meet at 6 p.m. Oct. 4.
