MADISON - Argyle-Pecatonica's Matthew Severson is tied for 14th place in the WIAA Division 3 state golf tournament after shooting an 84 in the first round Monday.
Severson at 12-over-par is 11 shots away from leader Taylor Ryman of Mineral Point, who carded a 3-over-75 in the first round at University Ridge Golf Course.
Severson had eight pars and birdied 537-yard No. 11 and the 408-yard No. 18. He settled for a triple bogey on the 379-yard No. 7 and a triple bogey on the 154-yard No. 12.
Severson will play in the second round of the state tournament today, June 9.
