STOUGHTON - Monroe junior Maggie Setterstrom picked up a win at No. 2 singles, but the Cheesemakers dropped a Badger South Conference dual match to Stoughton 6-1 Tuesday.

"The scores don't indicate it, but I thought we played much better tonight than we did against Edgewood in our last match," Monroe coach Brad Saugstad said in an email. "Stoughton finished second to Edgewood in the conference last year and definitely has a strong team that could do it again."

Setterstrom defeated Stoughton sophomore Lydia Brekkan 7-5, 6-0.

"Both Maggie and her opponent had similar strategies," Saugstad said. "They tried to take over the net and win volleys. Maggie just executed better and had better passing shots and approach shots."

Stoughton senior Sarah Benoy at No. 1 singles defeated Monroe freshman Grace Tostrud 6-1, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, Stoughton junior Stacy Benoy beat Monroe freshman Jensen Christensen 6-1, 6-1. Stoughton junior Krissy Pohland at No. 4 singles defeated Monroe junior Skye Allen 6-1, 6-1.

The Vikings swept all three doubles matches. The Vikings' senior No. 1 doubles tandem of Kendra Halverson and Sydney Johnson beat Monroe juniors Ashley Placek and Hallie Signer 6-1, 6-0.

At No. 2 doubles, Stoughton seniors Marissa Robson and Anna Nelson knocked off Monroe junior Parris Bunker and sophomore Sam Huizenga 6-2, 6-0. Stoughton juniors Paige Halverson and Ashley Fisher at No. 3 doubles beat Monroe junior Kiara Miller and senior Liz Skatrud 6-1, 6-1.

"As I was tracking throughout the night, 85 to 90 percent of the points across all of our positions the girls were doing exactly what we practice and were positioning themselves to execute our strategy," Saugstad said. "Stoughton's shots were pretty strong and at times we struggled because of that, but I was encouraged by how the girls took what we have been working on in practice and tried to apply it."

In the junior varsity dual match, Stoughton defeated Monroe 9-2.
