BARABOO - The Monroe girls basketball team hit its free throws and found a way to break the press late, knocking off Baraboo on the road, 64-49.

"Towards the end, they were pressing and we got some easy points," Monroe head coach Kevin Keen said. "We controlled the whole ballgame, though."

The Cheesemakers (5-0) outscored the Thunderbirds 16-11 in the first quarter. By halfime, Monroe led 31-27.

"They cut it to 36-34 midway through the third, but that was as close as it got. We pulled away, leading by six and seven from then on," Keen said.

Monroe hit 25 of 31 free throws in the game, and 7 of 9 in the fourth quarter.

Kyleigh Sellnow led Monroe with 17 points, including three 3-pointers.

"Kyleigh had a good game. She creates for us and can score from the perimeter. It's good to have her back," Keen said of his junior star, who had been slowed to start the season because of an illness.

Ashley Hermanson scored 16 points, Jamie Armstrong had 14 and Gwen Sutter added 11. Both players scored six points in the fourth quarter. Armstrong also pulled down 10 rebounds.

"Baraboo is a tough team. They've got two big post players. They were a good test for us," Keen said.
