MAZOMANIE - Junior guard Anya Schween's 3-point basket with 4.6 seconds remaining broke a 51-51 tie and gave the New Glarus Glarner Knights a thrilling 54-52 win over the Wisconsin Heights Vanguards Thursday in a Capitol South conference game.

After Schween hit what proved to be the game winner, Wisconsin Heights needed a 3-point field goal to tie, but the Knights fouled the Vanguards' Jenna Endres to send her to the free throw line with one second left.

Endres made the first free throw to make the score 54-52, then purposely missed the second free throw in hopes of getting a putback basket, but the strategy backfired when Endres' attempt failed to touch the rim resulting in a turnover.

Schween led the Glarner Knights (9-7, 5-2 Capitol South) with 16 points while senior Alycia Atwell and sophomore Courtney Feller each scored 11.

Barneveld 45, Juda 35

BARNEVELD - The bad news for Juda was scoring only two points in the first quarter of its Six Rivers East game against Barneveld. The good news was they only trailed by five points.

Unfortunately for the Panthers, they couldn't mount a rally against the conference co-leaders.

Senior C.J. Dunwiddie scored 12 points and senior Ellen Kiser added 11 for Juda (12-5, 5-3 Six Rivers East).

Freshman Rachel Slaney delivered 17 points for Barneveld (15-1, 7-0 Six Rivers East), which won an earlier meeting between the two teams on Dec. 22, 54-48.

Black Hawk and Barneveld, ranked No. 4 and No. 5 respectively in this week's Associated Press Division 5 poll, will meet in South Wayne Saturday. Juda will host Argyle on Tuesday.

Brodhead 63,

Beloit Turner 34

BELOIT - Brodhead wasted little time in recovering from its loss to Whitewater Tuesday, thumping Beloit Turner in Rock Valley South Conference play.

The Trojans made more field goals (14) than the Cardinals (12), but Brodhead did most of its damage beyond the arc where it connected on seven 3-pointers and also went 18 of 28 at the free throw line.

Junior Taylor Douglas scored a career-high 29 points, including four 3-pointers, for the Cardinals who improved to 15-3 overall and 10-2 in the Rock Valley South.
