NEW GLARUS - New Glarus senior Anya Schween made her season debut Monday night, which was senior night for the Glarner Knights, and put the exclamation point on a 42-29 win over Pecatonica.

Schween, who has been recovering from ACL surgery, was recently cleared by doctor's to resume play. While not yet back to 100 percent, Schween entered the game with 40 seconds to go in the fourth quarter and hit a 3-pointer that capped the scoring for New Glarus.

"That was great to see," New Glarus coach Megan Scheele said, adding that Schween's teammates were "very supportive."

Scoring for the Glarner Knights was otherwise spread out. Junior Sierra Watrud, senior Lexi Hanson, senior Cassie Feller and senior Liz Proctor each scored eight points.

"It was kind of all over the place," Scheele said of New Glarus' offensive production.

Procter was the early catalyst, scoring two points in the first quarter and six in the second, and Hanson scored all of her eight points in the fourth.

After losing the first quarter 9-8, the Knights took the second, third and fourth quarters by scores of 11-6, 9-3 and 14-11.

Pecatonica senior Madeline Fisher led the way for the Vikings, with six points.

New Glarus (12-9, 7-3 Capitol South) will play its final regular season game Thursday in Poynette.

Benton-Shullsburg 67, Argyle 64 (OT)

BENTON - A late foul opened the door for the Argyle girls basketball team, but Benton-Shullsburg held off the Orioles in overtime Monday night.

Argyle coach Kurt Ritschard said Benton-Shullsburg played a near identical game to the Orioles, which made for an exciting start.

"Both teams started off runnin' and gunnin'," he said. "It was like playing yourself."

The Zephyrs got the best of the Orioles in the fast first quarter, winning the frame 16-15. Argyle responded in the second quarter, taking a 35-31 lead into halftime.

Ritschard said Argyle came out flat in the third quarter, which allowed the Zephyrs to take a 43-42 going into the fourth.

The teams traded baskets in the final quarter, setting the stage for a dramatic end to regulation.

Down 61-58 with seconds to go in the game, Argyle senior Rachel Tollakson was fouled in the process of shooting a 3-pointer, and she sent the game to overtime by hitting all three of her free throws.

Benton-Shullsburg held on for the win, though, outscoring the Orioles 6-3 in overtime.

Leading the way for the Zephyrs was senior Blaire Lutes, who scored 23 points.

Kayla Ostby led all Argyle scorers, with 14 points, and fellow senior Kim Pink added 13.

The Orioles (11-10, 5-6 Six Rivers East) will look to bounce back in their season finale Thursday at home against Monticello. Given it's their last game of the regular season, their last conference game and senior night, Ritschard said a win would be important on many levels.

"It's a big game going into the tournament," he said. "A big win would carry us into the playoffs."

Monticello won the first meeting between the two teams, 39-34, and Ritschard said he thinks the rematch will be another defensive struggle.

"I think it's gonna be another hard-fought battle," he said.
