Schwartz helps Darlington cruise past Pec

DARLINGTON - Senior Will Schwartz scored a team-high 20 points and the Darlington boys basketball team rolled to an 86-58 nonconference win over Pecatonica on Thursday.

Darlington (7-0), ranked No. 2 in the WisSports.net Division 4 Coaches poll, remains unbeaten after routing the Vikings, who are one of the top teams in the Six Rivers East Conference.

The Redbirds had five players reach double figures. Senior Ryan Glendenning scored 17 points. Seniors Josh Soper, Trevor Johnson and Stryker Fitzsimons added 12 points each.

"I thought we did a good job of executing our offense in the first half," Darlington coach Tom Uppena said. "When you score 41 points in a half it's a good half."

Pecatonica senior A.J. Hendrickson scored a game-high 26 points.

"We tried face-guarding him in the first half," Uppena said. "We got into foul trouble. We switched to a 2-3 zone to stay out of foul trouble."

Darlington seniors Hunter Johnson and Soper each picked up two fouls in the first half.

Pecatonica senior Logan Green and sophomore Colton Schraepfer each added 11 points. Schraepfer drilled three 3-pointers, and Green had two.

The Redbirds were 11 of 13 from the free-throw line; the Vikings were 15 of 21.

Monticello at Cambridge Tournament

CAMBRIDGE - Monticello dropped two games in the Cambridge Tournament.

In the first game, Cambridge knocked off Monticello 69-49.

Monticello junior Jon Errthum scored a team-high 16 points. Senior Zach Price added 13 points, and freshman Reece Rufer pitched in eight points.

The Blue Jays opened the game with a 10-0 run. The Ponies tied the game twice later in the first half. The Blue Jays closed the first half with a 13-3 spurt to build a 10-point lead.

Later in the day, Oakfield rolled to a 60-40 win over the Ponies.

Rufer scored a team-high 13 points. Price added 12 points.

The Ponies trailed by six points late in the first half, 30-24. However, Oakfield hit two 3-pointers in the final 2 minutes, 30 seconds to take a 12-point lead into halftime. The Oaks put the game away by outscoring the Ponies 24-16 in the second half.
