DARLINGTON - Darlington senior Thomas Schultz is one of 32 finalists for the WIAA Scholar Athlete Award.
Four boys and four girls from each of the four divisions were selected from more than 800 nominations that came from more than 400 high schools. Selections were based on athletic and academic achievements. Schultz was a finalist for Division 3. Of the 32 finalists, 18 have a grade-point average of 4.0 and the average GPA of the finalists is 3.90.
Schultz helped lead the Darlington cross country team to a fourth straight state championship in the fall. He has earned nine varsity letters in cross country, basketball and track. He has been named all-conference in cross country for three years.
The finalists will be honored at an awards ceremony set for May 3 at the Jefferson Street Inn in Wausau.
